My little counter of heaven.

Whelan's is one of my favourite places to go simply for the art gallery they house in the basement (aka toilets). Seriously, Dublin's budding artist community gathers down here with inspiration and sharpies and go to town. I'm not even being sarcastic, here. Some stuff is provocative, I dare say engaging. They like the bring their poet friends, too.

Besides... this place plays all the right music!

(I can't tell if it's one exclamation point or two, but does it really matter?)

Boo-yeah. Birthday tickies to Wilco and Beirut. And Bulmers. And modern art.

Also, my mum found the BEST card. In existence. EVER.

Came home tonight to a little birthday celebration from the Davsters, a night early. He couldn't find any candles at the shop, so he improvised. I did not think he could get any more lovely, then he goes and does stuff like this.

Also, swap them around, and we have another birth date covered :)

I have fresh herbs in my house! Win.

I have only been talking about doing this for nearly a year. Fail.

But now they're here, so major win! Just starting with basil and rocket. I hope we can eat it before I end up killing both plants (which is sadly inevitable).

The colour of the sky outside my window today. Allllmost platinum.

Ooooold school comfort food. Toasted tomato sambos. Classic.

Tomatoes. Mayo. Salt. Loads of Peppa and good aul white pan (ha, the Hungarians at work didn't quite seem to understand).

Roadside pretties.

Alright, so I totally chose the wrong setting to film this on, but it happened so quick I was afraid of missing it... can you hear how hard it's raining!?

Seriously, the man who figures out how to bottle to serenity of a rain like this and transport it to a sunny day, will be very, very rich. I will give him all my money.

... so he'll be somewhat richer but not anywhere near rich. However I will love him with all my artist's heart.

Drum roll please....

and ta daaaaaaa!! Here they be, my beautiful pretties!

Yes, those are profiteroles. That I made. From scratch! It only took two terrible batches to find the winner, and let me tell you... victory is sweet. Made even sweeter by Bailey's chantilly and hot fudge sauce.

Davi had been bugging me about these for weeks, and when I finally did make an edible batch, I discovered they were the first homemade profiteroles he'd ever had, the poor lad! Well, here's to making up for lost time, and nearly making ourselves sick on sugar stuffed with more sugar finished with some sugar poured over it.

Excuse me while I go fall into a food coma.
